Sugar and spice and everything niceJan 13, 2014 | Leave your thoughts
Cakes, cookies, cupcakes oh my! The demand of sweet tables have sky-rocketed in the last few years and it shows no sign of slowing down. We sat down with May Carreon, founder of Petits Plaisirs Chocolata Treats and chatted about how she gets inspired to create unique themes for her clients, how she balances it all as a mother of three and about the recently added divisions of her company!
Sociale: Tell us a little about yourself?
May: Married and mother of 3. I work full time in sales and have been really toying with the idea of being my own boss for a long time. I decided to take a leap of faith in starting my own business when my last child was 3 months old. It’s been a tough 2 years, but I’m not giving up. I want to show my kids that anything is possible if you truly believe in yourself and your dream. I’ve come a long way and only have up to look :)
Sociale: What led you to become a sweet table stylist?
May: I started making cake pops and wasn’t truly fulfilled with that. I always felt like I should be doing more with my company, that it should be taken to another level. I literally plan a birthday party every 3 months, doing everything from the decorations to baking the sweets on the table. A light bulb went off, telling myself that this is my next level. And this is where I’ve come! I’m at my happy place planning and creating a party that will bring a smile to another person’s face. I’m continually striving to take my company to more heights. I’m planning on opening 2 more divisions: a party supplies shop and a wholesale division.
Sociale: What is the one treat that you can’t get enough of?
May: The one thing I cannot live without is chocolate! My all time favorite sweet and dessert is anything chocolate!
Sociale: Do you come up with all the themes and creative designs?
May: If I’m designing and styling my own sweet table for photo shoots and family parties then yes I come up with the themes and designs. If I’m planning a table for a customer then we collaborate and decide on a theme together. I then create the table according to their theme or color. I do a lot of research on the net: Pinterest and Google are my go to places. I get idea overload!
Sociale: What is the key to balancing it all (mother, career woman, entrepreneur)?
May: Oh my, I’m not too sure what the secret is, but I involve my kids in a lot of what I do. I ask their opinions on some themes I’m designing, we go out on delivery together and I even get them involved in some of my crafts. That’s a lot of fun. Because I have a full time job, I have learned to schedule my time appropriately. Scheduling and writing everything down is key!
Sociale: What is your advice to other female entrepreneurs?
May: Never let someone else tell you differently what you dream is. Don’t give up on what you believe will be your true calling!
