Eduardo “Wado” de Pedro announces his presidential aspirations and will be the candidate supported by Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in the Argentina primary

(CNN Spanish) — Eduardo “Wado” de Pedro Minister of the Interior of Argentina, announced his presidential aspiration through a video shared on his Twitter account. “I deeply love my country. It is necessary to represent and defend the federal country again. Let us recover the hope and pride of being Argentines. I want to be your president, the president of all Argentine families”, he wrote in the message that accompanied the clips .

De Pedro will be a candidate for the governing coalition Unión por la Patria, although he did not hint at what his formula for the vice presidency might be.

The current presidential candidate, who calls himself a Peronist in his Twitter biography, is also the right hand of the current vice president, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. With Thursday’s announcement, De Pedro confirmed that she will participate in the August 13 Open, Simultaneous, Compulsory (PASO) primaries, in which candidates for each alliance will be determined.

De Pedro could face the former governor of the province of Buenos Aires and current Argentine ambassador to Brazil, Daniel Scioli, who has publicly expressed his willingness to be the standard-bearer of the ruling party.

Saturday is the last day for the presentation of the lists and it still remains to be confirmed whether an agreement will be reached between the candidates or whether there will be a primary in Unión por la Patria.

After the PASO, in which the candidates for president and vice president of the Union for the Homeland and also of the opposition coalition Together for Change, among other forces, will be defined, there will be the general elections, on October 22, with a second round , if necessary, scheduled for November 19th.
