(CNN) — Olympic ski jumper Patrick Gasienica died on Monday at the age of 24, USA Nordic has announced.
A GoFundMe page Shared by USA Nordic, which confirmed his death on Wednesday, said he died in a motorcycle accident on his way home from work.
Gasienica, born in Mchenry, Illinois, represented the United States at her first Winter Olympic Games in Beijing 2022.
The Olympian made his International Ski Federation (FIS) ski jumping debut in 2015, and went on to represent the United States at the FIS Junior World Ski Championships in 2016 and 2017, and at the FIS World Ski Championships FIS Nordic in 2019 in Seefeld, USA Nordic said in a statement published by US Ski & Snowboard announcing his death.
“USA Nordic and the ski jumping community are saddened to learn of the passing of Patrick Gasienica,” USA Nordic said in a statement on Twitter.
“A Beijing 2022 Winter Olympian, Patrick has been an incredible competitor, teammate and friend.”
And they added: “He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, Patrick.”
