(CNN Spanish) — The President of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, announced several security measures on Sunday after a new massacre that left at least 11 dead in Choloma, Cortés, in the north of the country, as detailed on Twitter.
According to the police report, which appeared in local media, several individuals visited a swimming pool play center and shot at a group of people.
Castro said the crime was committed by “thugs hired, trained and directed by drug lords who operate with impunity in the Valle de Sula drug corridor.”
The Honduran president has announced 24-hour police operations, raids and controls, as well as a curfew in the city of Choloma during the night and early in the morning. The measure will also be applied in San Pedro Sula, where violent deaths have been recorded in recent days, starting from 4 July.
The latter measure will be in force for 15 days, which could be extended, added the president.
A reward of approximately $33,000 was offered in exchange for information to find those responsible for these crimes.
