(CNN Spanish) — The government of the Dominican Republic reported on Monday that, so far in the administration of President Luis Abinader, the authorities have seized more than 9,400 kilos of drugs such as cocaine, heroin, marijuana, crack and ecstasy.
In a press release, the government indicated that these figures are more than five times those intercepted during the past administration, between 2016 and 2020, when around 1,600 kilos of different drugs were seized.
The authorities added that in connection with these kidnappings they arrested about 69,000 people.
The statement added that these figures were offered by the president of the Dominican Republic’s National Directorate for Drug Control, Vice Admiral José Manuel Cabrera Ulloa, following the government’s weekly security meeting.
