The future of Messi, the matches with the Argentine team and the possible visit to his homeland

(CNN Spanish) — After a cold farewell, Messi and club Paris Saint Germain (PSG) parted ways. The personal and football fate of the iconic player is unknown for now.

Messi’s contract with the Parisian club expires at the end of June, and so far there is nothing concrete or certain about what will follow.

It is important to note that, in most European leagues, the transfer market will open on 1 July and close between 31 August and 1 September.

Jorge Messi, father and representative of the superstar, spoke this Monday about the possibility of returning to FC Barcelona. He said his son “would like to,” but also added that “there’s a lot to talk about.”

However, Messi’s father has cooled the fans’ expectations of the culé team. As he explained to the Catalan journalist Carlos Monfort of Jijantes FC, “his return to Barcelona is quite complicated” because “it depends on many things”. He added that the player’s decision will be announced shortly.

At the same time, talks with Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal have cooled down at the initiative of Messi, who has asked to postpone the talks to 2024, according to Goal.

As for Inter Miami (MLS), which has made public declarations of wanting to add Messi to its squad, they have not resulted in a negotiation between the parties.

In the meantime, the player is with his family in Paris waiting to join the Argentine team to face the next commitments.

With the albiceleste he will play two friendlies. One of these against Australia —a team they beat in the round of 16 at the World Cup in Qatar— on June 15 in Beijing, time to be confirmed. The other engagement will be on June 19 against Indonesia, in Jakarta, also with a time to be defined.

After these challenges, Messi could travel to Argentina where he will celebrate his 36th birthday on June 24th. On the same day, his friend and former Argentine national teammate Maximiliano Rodríguez will hold a farewell match at the Marcelo Bielsa de Newell stadium, to which Messi has been invited, but has not yet confirmed his presence.

On June 25, another former Argentine football star, Juan Román Riquelme, could hold his farewell match at the legendary Bombonera. If confirmed, Riquelme has already announced that he would like Messi to be part of that gala.

It is often said that the end is nothing more than the herald of a new beginning. A new dawn appears in Messi’s life, even if for now it is not known where it will be.
